“Stunning spot to escape the world & get back to nature”
Dorset Tourism Awards 2019
Quirky, fun, and characterful are just some of the adjectives that are used to describe glamping at Dorset Forest Garden. Set in peaceful beautiful surroundings, the perfect place to star gaze in comfort thanks to our dark skies. Within the forest garden glampers can choose from either one of our two individually styled shepherd’s huts or a canvas yurt, filled with vintage touches and lit by a mix of LED lighting and candles for a nostalgic touch. Each are positioned to soak up the stunning views.
In October there will also be an additional star gazing shepherd’s hut in its own private copse. This will have a panoramic window over the bed to take advantage of our dark skies.
These are just a few of the reasons we have been awarded silver in the Dorset Tourism Awards in 2018 and 2019. Come and stay and experience the magic for yourself.
The main farm is to the NW of the glamping, close enough to make it convenient to reach, but far enough not to feel disturbed.
Choose your hut...
|The top of the woodburner is big enough to heat a saucepan for a simple supper or a kettle for a brew.
You can also open the door and toast your marshmallows over the fire.
|In front of each shepherd’s hut is a fire pit.
Your hut comes with all the equipment you should need to cook a gourmet meal over the flames.
|The Scandanavians created a BBQ in a hut. It is a very enjoyable space, with seating around the edge and the BBQ in the middle.
Like any BBQ, the charcoal should be left till the coals are glowing before cooking. So light up then spend some time enjoying the view with an aperitif. Make the most of slow cooking!
In the hut is also a fridge freezer and a charging point.
|All the firewood; we’re happy to help if you are new to lighting fires.
Fridge freezer during high season, and cool box in low season.
Inside your shepherd’s hut there is camp kitchen equipment for cooking on the firepit or in the BBQ cabin, plus an indoor pan and kettle.
China, cutlery, utensils, washing up liquid and drinking water is all in the hut.
Starter essentials for the kitchen including filter coffee, tea, sugar, and marshmallows.

Thank you and hope to see you soon.
Gen & Mickey staying in the Forager from 28th-30th May 2019
Wow! What a wonderful few days off the grid and feeling completely relaxed.
This was our first “Glamping” experience and it is safe to say we will 100% be back next year and have already recommended it to our friends and family.
The hut is lovely and cosy. The animals (especially Lola the dog) are of friendly and the hosts are superb!
Would highly recommend “The Acorn Inn” in Evershot – one of the nicest lunches we have had in a long time.
We will defy be back in 2020!
Soraya & Nick staying in the Forager from 17th-19th May 2019

We have had an amazing hot Easter (child-free) weekend!!
Bonfires, fantastic sleeps, the views were all wonderful.
We went to Charmouth and found some fossils but it was nice to return to our tranquil hut, away from the hoards on the beaches! My third trip here and looking forward to may more.

What can I say – a truly magical mini-break. This place exceeded all expectations. The hut so cute, the stars so bright and the hot tub is just perfect!
Loved saying hello to the ducks and listening to the fire crackle as we cooked tea.

An absolutely idyllic break for us both. We adored everything about the hut. So cosy and tranquil and all the extra touches were much appreciated.
We loved coking breakfast and supper on the fire pit and wonderful to relax in the hot tub gazing at the stars.
Thank you for sharing such a beautiful space, a little slice of Utopia.
We would love the return when we can next Granny to look after the children!
Sue & Brian staying in the Forager from 21st-23rd May 2018
This was a special break celebrating our Ruby wedding anniversary and Sue’s birthday. It also gave Sue the opportunity to visit some childhood haunts in West Bay.
Tracy and James made us feel very welcome and helped us initially with lighting fires for the hot tub and the fire pit, after which we rapidly became experts!
The ambience of the Forager is fantastic and even inside the hut you feel part of the outside world. The peace and tranquility are very restorative and the views are breathtaking, particularly when sitting in a warm hot tub.
All in all a wonderful experience and one we would definitely undertake again.

Helen & Ben staying in the Forager from 8th-10th Apr 2018
We have had an amazing time!
The space you have created here is magical and even the pouring rain didn’t make a difference to our visit. It has been the the perfect place to escape city life and rejuvenate!
Highlights were the hot tub on a misty night, making and cooking with our own fire (the mere satisfaction of keeping it going) and exploring all that Dorset has to offer. Finally keeping the ducks at bay whilst enjoying tea and biscuit!
Thank you for being so welcoming and helping us get started, we will be Telling everyone to come.
Adam & Evelyn staying in the Artisan from 6th-8th Apr 2018
We had a wonderful relaxing stay in your lovely shepherd’s hut. The area is beautiful and very peaceful. We explored the area and visited the ancient hill forts in the surrounding towns and villages. The hut itself was extremely comfortable and the log burner makes for a fantastic and cosy stay. Highly recommended.

Amazing way to start the New Year. We have had an incredible time and are very grateful for your hospitality James – nothing ever was too much trouble for you. Cooking under the stars, in total comfort, Beaminster lovely and the beach at Seatown unforgettable! Sea was like a lake, and amazing sunset. Tracy and James many thanks we will be back x

The hut was mazing, it had everything we could possibly need. Especially loved the little lights that come on once it got dark.
Tracy and James were lovely-thank you for teaching us to light a fire (we failed epically on our first night). Loved sitting by the fire and playing cards!
The animals were so funny and made us laugh numerous times. Particularly the chicken who ran at us to stop us taking a picture of the little ducklings.
Natalie & barry staying in the Artisan from 16th-18th June 2017
What a lovely place to get away from it all!
Such a great hut, everything about it was brilliant.

Lots of stars to gaze at and a couple of shooting stars, lots of friendly animals (loved to ducks!) We enjoyed the campfire cooking and the BBQ hut was very convenient. Altogether a wonderful place to unwind and we hope to visit again one day.

Many thanks for having us i hope we can return soon.

Being outside for cooking and stargazing was a great experience and only enhanced the feeling of peace and relaxation.
Many thanks for your welcome and allowing us to share in your vision.

The perfect spot to spend our bank holiday weekend as a base to explore the area by bike and car.
Cooking outside under the stars (we don’t remember seeing such beautiful night skies in the UK before) Was magic and waking up to stunning views in the morning.
Forager hut has had everything we needed and was a cosy dry retreat when the usual bank holiday weather kicked in.
Had a delicious meal at the Acorn at Evershot.

The location is perfect for exploring this amazing part of the world. We went fossil hunting in Charmouth (didn’t find any!) Cycled from Dorchester to Weymouth and back then to Maiden Castle. Beaminster is a hidden gem and the Red lion is a must. The views along the cliff tops along the coast are breathtaking.

What a weekend it’s been!
Our hosts were lovely and welcoming, ensuring we had a great stay.
The views from our hut were truly spectacular. Waking up to the rolling hills and beautiful countryside was worth the trip alone; and on our last night the moon and stars were as bright as I had ever seen.
After spending our days travelling from one great place to the next – Beaminster, Seaton, Lyme Regis, Burton Breadstick, Corscombe – walking, eating (and drinking) we have decided to return soon to see what other delights Dorset has to offer.

Had a fabulous, relaxed meal at the Red lion in Beaminster and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere at the Seafood Festival in Weymouth, The hut is just perfect – everything we needed and lots of little homely touches that made it extra special – thank you. Can’t believe how warm the little stove makes the hut – hope we’ll be back, maybe for an autumn break next time.
Jess & Kirsty staying in the Artisan 3rd – 6th July 2016
We booked this trip away for our 5 year anniversary. The hut is absolutely stunning and had everything we needed and more. It was so nice to escape our daily lives and be surrounded by nature.
We received a warm welcome and a little tour of the hut, and settled in with a hot cup of tea from the camp kettle. It was so cosy inside with the log burner, and the bed was so comfortable!
We can’t wait to book again, it exceeded our expectations and they were already high after seeing the photos!
Winnie & Will staying in the Artisan 29th June – 2nd July 2016
Despite the changeable British Summer weather we spent a blissful three days in the rustic Artisan Shepherd’s Hut reconnecting with nature, exploring the beautiful county of Dorset and re-discovering the simple pleasures in life!
We enjoyed our hut very much, it was cosy and quaint and we appreciated all the thoughtful details and finishes our hosts fitted it out with. We were able to cook three sumptuous gourmet suppers on the open fire and discovered a useful bellow in the tray!
And of course, the hot shower in the morning always helps!
Laura & Paul staying in the Artisan 10th – 12th June 2016
We booked this charming shepherd’s hut as a last minute get away for the weekend, and so happy we did as it’s been so lovely and calm.
Open fires for cooking and the cosy hut to sleep in, just what we needed for a chilled weekend.
Abotsbury gardens are worth a visit, and the beach at West Bay is beautiful.
We also made friends with one of the farm cats, who’s very sweet. 🙂

There are just two shepherd’s huts (the Forager or the Artisan) both with stunning far reaching views over rolling Dorset countryside (designated an area of outstanding natural beauty).
Each hut includes en-suite facilities, with shower and flushing loo. The hut has a log burning stove with a free, unlimited supply of wood and a generous kingsize bed with feather duvet and pillows. This makes for super comfortable nights! The dresser comes fully equipped with a starter kit for your stay (including marshmallows for toasting over the fire) and there is inside and outside cooking equipment plus games, books, and an OS map. Outside there’s a fire pit for each hut and a spacious Scandinavian BBQ hut making cooking fun whatever the weather! Dorset Forest Garden is 20 acres and run using environmentally friendly permaculture principles. It includes sheep, horses, free range ducks and trout as part of an aquaponic growing system that is based on principles used by the Aztecs for producing healthy nutritional food. Our farmhouse was built on passive solar principles.
With not a road or house visible from the hut they are well situated for star gazing.

|A Rural Paradise|
|Often described by our guests as a little bit of heaven; we are in the heart of Thomas Hardy’s Wessex, an area steeped in history and heritage. The picturesque town of Beaminster is nestled in a natural valley surrounded by four of Dorset’s highest peaks – this area provides some of the finest views to be found anywhere. Beaminster (pronounced bemminster) is an old settlement, dating back to around the 7th century, when it was known as Bebingmynster, meaning the church of Bebbe. Today there are some lovely independent shops and tasty places to refuel. The area is a rich patchwork of rolling countryside containing mellow stone villages with their cosy pubs serving local delights, as well as vibrant towns like Bridport (dubbed Notting Hill on Sea).Stylish, yet unspoilt. If you are looking for somewhere to unplug from everyday life and reinvigorate your senses, West Dorset is definitely for you – book your break and recharge your batteries!|
