I love this time of year. the sunrises not too early and not too late and song birds are at their most vocal. I can sneak outside in my pyjamas, snuggle in a blanket and enjoy the dawn chorus.
It is magical. So many birds singing together. The reason they sing most vocally at dawn at this time of year is because the still morning allows their songs to be heard further and at the start of breeding season it is the perfect way to attract a mate and mark their territory. Generally it’s the male songbirds that sing and as our forest garden provides a rich diversity of food it makes it an ideal location to provide him and his new family with food and shelter.
It is very noticeable as our forest garden continues to grow in diversity and shelter, more birds are attracted in, and so it makes it wonderful for us and our shepherd’s huts guests as we enjoy this free concert!
