The Novelist is a brace of shepherd’s huts joined in a T by a glass walk way. It comprises of a bedroom hut complete with copper roll-top bath, plus a larger hut with kitchen, living space and TV. This spacious hut with central heating is ideal for longer stays!
Built to suit our very specific location it is designed to make the most of our expansive views, and is based around a wooden deck with ample room for dining and relaxing. Beyond the deck are the glamping essentials of a hot tub and fire pit.
Bedroom Hut
In the bedroom hut there is a luxury copper bath made by William Holland of Dorchester; from it you can soak in the best of our views. The free-standing kingsized bed faces onto the view and has a panoramic star-gazing window directly above to make the most of our dark skies.
Living Hut
In the living hut you can fling open the French doors and enjoy the best of the views from the sofa.
Whereas our other huts are about getting away from connectivity this hut has both WiFi and TV. Whether you are on vacation or workation this hut offers flexibility.
If you wish to remain disconnected, when switched off the TV blends into the background as a mirror!
The gorgeously styled interior is very spacious for a romantic getaway for two.
There is also a craftsman-made kitchen which includes an induction hob, kettle, toaster, fridge, china, cutlery, and washing up facilities with Ecover washing up liquid and tea-towel. It has a fold-away breakfast bar behind the peninsular unit.
Tea, coffee, oil and sugar provided.
Outside
The outdoor seating area is on a wooden deck supported by traditional staddle stones, with a fire pit and a store of wood for your use during your stay.
Close to the hot tub is an outdoor rainfall shower on the deck. It is very private – but with fantastic views!
The hot tub is very privately positioned right beside the Novelist’s deck so you can step down into the hot tub. I can’t think of a better way to enjoy a starry night! If we know your arrival time we will try our best to get it warming before you arrival.

Additional facilities
Within the forest garden there is also a BBQ hut. This is a hexagonal building with the BBQ in the middle.
Guests in the Novelist are welcome to use this shared facility during their stay.
As this facility is shared by only 3 huts it is usually available for solo use. It is spacious enough to take a large group if you are visiting with friends.
Hamper and Drinks
Visit our hamper page – any hampers ordered before your arrival will be waiting for you.
In the hut is a drinks menu containing drinks from our local breweries and distilleries. We can bring orders to your hut during your stay. This includes our own hut special cocktails and own labelled wines!
Expansive views from the hut and local footpaths
We are fortunate to enjoy stunning views down a long valley all the way to Eggardon Iron Age fort. With not so much as a hamlet visible this makes for some wonderful scenery. As in the Astronomer, above the bed is a panoramic star gazing window so the views are also upwards!
We are surrounded by a fabulous network of footpaths and bridleways – we supply a walking map. As a result of the rolling hills of Dorset each brow of a hill brings a whole new vista. Within half an hour walk of the glampsite you can see miles of the Jurassic coast all the way from Abbotsbury to Lyme Regis. You will never bore of this vista!
If you are wishing to eat out there are also some lovely places within nearby Beaminster or beyond. Beaminster is a 2 mile walk.
